Dr. Kalam

Aiding the inception – A tribute to Dr. Kalam

27th July 2015 – the day when the world lost a soul as revered as Dr. Kalam’s. The nation mourns his demise and the void he has left in the hearts of the people cannot be repleted by any means. Dr Kalam was a phoenix, who rose from the ashes of misery and poverty to rise and shine brighter than a shooting star. Today, as people express deep grief on the loss of a teacher, scientist, visionary, philosopher and the man who paved way for India to become one of the strongest armed forces in the world, we have got an urgent task to do – make his dream come true.

He was a patron of creativity and novelty in thoughts. Whenever he had to advise a large gathering of youngsters, one of the things he focussed upon was making them dream and imagine. When you imagine something new, something revolutionary emerges, something that hasn’t been done before, that’s when you outdo yourself – which should be your ultimate aim.

If we seek paying homage to him, learning and understanding his talks and applying them to create something relevant to the society will be the best way. The things he preached can be regarded as the success algorithm for the newborn firms – the ‘startups’. If you want to succeed in establishing a firm and prosper in running it effectively, these few advices might be the best motivational guidelines from the man himself; let’s learn to begin:

1. Have a dream.

“You have to dream before your dreams can come true.”

Have a dream

Someone without a dream, a vision, cannot even think of starting off a new firm. One has to live one’s dreams relentlessly, without any doubts and questions about the outcome and be honest towards the efforts.

2. Practice rectitude

“Life is a difficult game. You can win it only by retaining your birthright to be a person.”

Practice rectitude

The deeds of an entrepreneur should be highly honest and integralOne should be noble enough to understand that long term success cannot be attained though quick unfair ways as the nature takes care. This also creates better work environment and generates employee loyalty.

3. Burn away your lifeboats.

“To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal.”

Burn away your lifeboats

Mr Kalam always used to motivate his pupils of treading the unexplored ways with no fear of failure. Someone who dares to start a firm should break away from his comfort zone as there is no substitute to hard work. For success, one has to try out new things and take some amount of risk.

4. Embrace the failures.

“Man needs his difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy success.”

Embrace the failures

Failures are inevitable. You cannot name a human who has not seen failure in his life, even Mr Kalam had quite a few, while working for ISRO. The key is, to humbly accept the fault and acknowledge it. While in case of success, one must credit the team for their relentless efforts.

5. Create.

“Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of inquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership among students and become their role model.”

Possibly the most important aspect of being an entrepreneur is pledging to be as creative as a 5 year old child. Abstaining from getting your mind corrupted by the societal norms and the ‘It’s supposed to be this way’ tradition.

This is not an exhaustive list with a definite number of points, but is a guideline to mould your thoughts according to what the most esteemed president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam used to suggest regarding the importance of taking the responsibility to begin things. The next few words are capable enough to infuse a sense of hope and sanctity in your mind, by Dr. Kalam, his ‘vision’.

“I climbed and climbed
Where is the peak, my Lord?
I ploughed and ploughed,
Where is the knowledge treasure, my Lord?
I sailed and sailed,
Where is the island of peace, my Lord?
Almighty, bless my nation
With vision and sweat resulting into happiness.”

With a heavy heart, I express my condolences to a worthy son of the motherland, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, the Missile Man of India, may he attain peace in the infinite. His motivation will always guide us in creating a better India and making his vision come true.
